Mobilize Your Joints To Reduce Pain

Foam Rolling

  • Foam rolling is an affordable, easy to perform, and time efficient form of self-massage. Here are 4 reasons why you should implement foam rolling into your daily wellness routine.

1. Increased range of motion/flexibility

Foam rolling is a form of myofascial release that restores the proper length-tension relationship to muscles. It reduces tightness to ensure muscle balance around a joint, increasing motion and flexibility at that joint. Combining foam rolling with stretching increases flexibility better than stretching alone.

2. Increased blood flow to muscles

Utilizing foam rolling before a workout increases blood flow and elevates heat in the tissue. This reduces tightness and increases joint range of motion prior to exercise.

3. Reduces Soreness

Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) increases within the first 24 to 72 hours after exercise and can 5 to 7 days to disappear. A 20 minute bout of foam rolling immediately post-exercise and every 24 hours thereafter reduces the likelihood DOMS and decreases the amount of time until recovery.

4. Prevents Injury

DOMS can negatively affect performance, muscle function, and joint mechanics that make you susceptible to injury. Foam rolling before after exercise insures muscles are warmed up before starting to use them and promotes recovery after exercise.
